Marriage License

Marriage licenses can be obtained from the Iron County Clerk’s Office, located at 68 S 100 E, Parowan, Utah.

Licenses are issued Mon–Thu, 8:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M. and Fri, 8:00 A.M.–12:00 P.M.

Both parties must be present with the required documents listed below. A license is effective immediately and must be used within 32 days of purchase. Refunds and extensions cannot be given. A license issued in Iron County may be used anywhere in Utah.

Requirements

Bring valid ID, proof of age, and pay a $30.00 fee (check, cash, money order, or credit/debit). The fee is non-refundable.

Information needed to issue a license:

  • Full legal names (include maiden name if applicable)
  • Social Security numbers (if assigned; not required if none)
  • Current addresses
  • Date & place of birth (city, county, state/country)
  • Names of parents (include mother’s maiden name) & their birthplaces (state/country)
  • Race of applicants
  • Identification: driver license or passport; if using a birth certificate, also bring a photo ID
  • Divorce decree signed by the judge if finalized within the last 60 days

Additional Information

  • Validity: 32 days from issue; valid statewide.
  • The license remains County property and must be returned to the Clerk whether or not the marriage is solemnized.
  • The officiant completes the Marriage Certificate and License.
  • After the ceremony you’ll receive the certificate; the officiant must return the license to the Clerk within 30 days.
  • A certified copy (mailed to you after filing) is your official proof of marriage. Additional certified copies are $6.00 each, available anytime.
  • For name changes, agencies like Social Security and the Driver License Division typically need to see your certified copy (they usually don’t keep it).
  • Who can officiate: Any ordained minister (18+), Native American spiritual advisors, Governor, Mayors, Justices of the Peace, Judges, County Clerks, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House, retired or U.S. Judges/Magistrates.

Information for Minors

  • Age 16 or 17: the minor and parent/legal guardian must obtain a written authorization to marry from a juvenile court judge (or court commissioner as permitted by rule) in the county where either party resides. See Utah Code § 30-1-9.
  • 15 and younger: prohibited from obtaining a marriage license under Utah law.
